Spring Singalong 2002

The third Spring Singalong Music Festival for Maidstone Area Infant Schools took place in All Saints Church on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday the 20th, 21st and 22nd of March.

As in past years the Singalongs were led by Tessa Fineman, Music Consultant to the Kent County Council, who encouraged some splendid sing by 1,500 children over the three days of the Festivals.

The children came to All Saints having learned in their own schools the songs to be sung. The songs had been chosen by teachers from the schools involved in a meeting last year which seems to stick in the mind of Tessa not so much for the music chosen but the cream/sticky buns available during the refreshments served at the meeting!

It was a pleasure to welcome so many young people to All Saints as well as their teachers LSAs and supporters (mums, dads, grannies, grandpas etc.

This year had the welcome added interest of BBC Radio Kent who came to the church to interview the Festival leaders and BBC TV South East Today who spent some time recording the Wednesday Festival. An extract from the recordings was broadcast during the 1.30pm and 6.30pm South East news on Wednesday the 20th March. It was well worth singing Spring Chicken about ten times for the benefit of the cameraman.

The local media also took a great interest in the Festivals this year with cameramen appearing on each day of the Festival. The KM devoted the centre section of their March 29th edition and we are grateful to them for making the news of the Festival widely known.
